16 About Me

Having my babies at age 23 and 25 seems REALLY young by today's norm, I've been a Mom most of my adult life. Now that my beautiful girls are women themselves I have time to focus on me, which for most of us is very hard to do....Why is that??

I love to READ!

So having a career as a Elementary school reading teacher is perfect for me!

I live at The Rottie Ranch!

That is what my husband and I like to call it because we have three gentle giants at our house. Our Mama dog, Abbi, and two of her pups, Kane and Ceiba fill our nest now.  They spend lots of time in "their" swimming pool.

I've been married a LONG time!

Yes...I married my high school sweetheart....and 26 years later he is still the love of my life!
The picture above shows my wedding day, a semi-current photo of Todd and I, those beautiful girls of mine, that grew up WAY too fast, and my well behaved pups posing for the camera!

I LOVE to SAVE $$$

Who doesn't right?? Well this past year, thanks to my friend Patty, I have started to save lots of money through couponing and by reading some fantastic blogs out there. I plan on sharing lots of information on this topic in future blogs.

My Disorganization has caused me STRESS!

Some lucky people are born with a brain to organize...welp NOT ME!!  I may be a lefty but my brain is NOT logical and organized.  This is an area I am working on! I  have improved immensely but...I still have a long way to go!  I plan on sharing some of my favorite projects, books, magazines and blogs on the subject in the future and look forward to some of you organizing geniuses to help me out!!

I want to look YOUNG and live HEALTHY!

How does a chocoholic eat healthy and drag herself to the gym? Well...another area I can always use help!!!  Lucky for me my husband is a work out/health nut (is that really lucky for me?) and my daughter Brianne is a make up/skin care and wardrobe stylist. I'll share tips and my struggles in future posts.

I'd LOVE to connect with you!

The purpose of sharing my life is to connect with others who may be dealing with some of the same struggles...overcoming obstacles, and celebrating achievements.

I thank you for taking the time to read my posts and hope to hear from you!!

Why Start a Blog.... Life After Empty Nest is Born!

I was touched by tragedy at a very young age...5 years and 10 months to be exact.  That was how old I was when I lost my Mother.  I don't second guess why that crucial person was taken from me, I have always believed everything happens for a reason.  And happen it did, I was adopted by my Mother's Sister and her husband, they provided a wonderful life for me and I grew up extremely happy and very loved!

So WHAT does that have to do with me and this blog? Well that event made me want to be a Mom ever since I was very little. I wanted to be the BEST Mom on Earth and be able to stay on Earth for longer than 6 years of my child's life.

Many years later, I married, Todd, my high school sweetheart and was blessed with two daughters Brianne and Shelby.

I loved every minute of Mommy-hood, they were the center of my world, everything revolved around them...and then they GREW-UP!  I'm not sure how it happened...but it did...so quickly!

It was tough, leaving them at college, but it was even harder coming home. I only knew how to be a Mom but now I wasn't sure how to be...what to be....what to do....? Lot's of questions and not many answers.

At first, I dove into work,  (I'm a 4th grade reading teacher) which was easy to do but I knew I needed more.  This blog is where I plan to share how I am dealing with "Life After Empty Nest" My new passions and hobbies...and those dreadful, sad, days when I miss "My Girls" more than usual.

I hope you will follow my journey and share your thoughts and feelings with me.

And, YES, there is Life After Empty Nest (A FUN and organized one!)

  1. Just found your blog today while browsing for home ideas. Just wanted to comment about how encouraging this post is. My son went away to college this year and I have a 17 year old daughter at home. I'm starting to understand those questions you talk about. I feel like my role needs to be redefined or something. Glad you've found something that helps you to deal with the "loneliness". It helps to hear about others who are going through the same stages in life.

    1. Welcome Michele! I'm so glad you found me!
Your comment brought tears to my eyes. I do still get very lonely. I'm not sure that will ever go away...

Motherhood totally defined me and it's hard not to put it first! I feel too young to be an "empty nester" and I am quite certain that must be a common feeling. Another stage of life is scarey.... time goes too fast!

I tell people to enjoy every minute with your children, but that can be hard to see when you are knee deep "in everyday craziness."

I hope you'll come by again and even subscribe by email. I love having readers that are (almost) trying to fill their nest too!

  2. Just found your blog. I know you live in the South, as you mentioned Publix. I coupon also, and Publix is my favorite grocery store! I was older when I got married, and then even older when I had my children. So, long story-short, I am older than you and have 13 yr old twins. My mother died when I was 8. I am a research person also--love Google! Were you able to find out ahead of time, what cable channels you would be able to view? I have done some reading on cutting the cable, and am wondering about doing that also. Except for news, we DVR the shows we watch. I didn't see an email contact listed for you. And, I like the name of your blog!

Sharon~ So glad you stopped by to visit my blog. It's nice to meet another Navy wife and especially with so much in common. I love how you transformed your bath & it looks so much larger now. Congratulations on your daughters graduating and moving onto grownup status, you've obviously done a wonderful job! My oldest is 25 and just made senior status at Texas A&M. Whew! She'll be done just in time for our youngest to start as a freshman here in Fl. It's going to be very different when my son leaves for school next year. I believe the reason for my blog is very much like yours except I'm preparing. I know I'll have a lot of free time in the near future. I sold my company in Texas and don't work now -OK, well I'm not gainfully employed is how it should be phrased, I actually work a lot. This is our permanent home, so between the massive home update and the blog I'm planning on keeping busy and am open and excited to seeing what the next "chapter" in my life will bring. So glad to have met a new blogging buddy who is working on "filling her nest as well"!

  7. Hi Sharon it brought me tears reading your blog. My story here is same as you lost my mother when I was 13 and since then I became a mother to my 5 siblings. I was 13 and my younger brother was 6 months. I came here in America as a nanny. It's my dream come true being here in America with little English =).I married 9 years ago with the guy I met online when I was in Costa Rica. He is a wonderful guy to me and to our 2 beautiful kids. I'm glad I found you and to share my life to a completely stranger. I love couponing too and FL has this Bogo at publix grocery store. My daughter 7 is asking me to teach her about couponing so we don't go out without coupon clipped. Hope to share with you more! Cheer Myrna
