Before and After
What do you get when you have a hubby who is not afraid to knock down some walls and changes things up a bit...a Beautiful Kitchen/Family Room! Are you ready to see my Remodeled kitchen? After hours of work...work and more work...it is done!!! What are you waiting for...Come On In!!Welcome - Hitting the Wall!
We are Floridians so just about EVERYONE enters the house through the garage. Before the remodel you hit a wall coming in...well a closet door to be exact. NOT the warm southern welcome I want to great guests with! Now you enter into a wide open space.
As you turned to the left..the white fridge was BOOM - right there blocking the view leaving just a small pathway due to that useless bar.
Now the little bar is gone leaving a more open kitchen.
The window was enlarged so I can gaze out at the pool while doing the dishes!
The stovetop used to be on this wall with the lowest, smallest oven we had EVER seen!
We put the fridge where the oven used to be and added counter space since the cooktop was GONE!
Where the fridge used to be is now my hubby's pride and joy! Our dual fuel GE Monogram which is surrounded by stainless steel counters. Yep my handy hubby made those too!! (he owns a metal fab shop when he isn't a firefighter) Aren't they beautiful!
The middle walls are now GONE!
Replaced with another sink (I LOVE having two sinks) tons of counter space and a wonderful place I can sit, relax and watch the hubby whip up yummy meals!
Walls Up...
Walls Down...
I remember when we were considering buying this 80's home and I hated the kitchen. Todd kept saying...she has good bones, the rest I can change.
I don't think it looks like the same house. Was it stressful...yes! Did it take hours of back breaking hard work...yes! (my poor husband)
But we love having the satisfaction that We DID THIS!!
I'm ecstatic this is MY Kitchen!! (Todd's actually, but he is happy to let me use it whenever I want!)

What's Next...Todd is breaking concrete in the Master Bath as I type...

It looks awesome. Love love love it!!! Bet you will enjoy cooking meals in that beautiful kitchen. I'm dying to remodel ours but I'm dreading the tear-down etc - especially with three kids in the house! Happy Thanksgiving!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Susi! We are loving it! It is so open and clean looking....no more crazy flowered wallpaper and cranberry cabinets! It was a huge undertaking but we love doing stuff like this...next up...Master Bath!
DeleteHope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Gorgeous! I love that you knocked out that wall. My kitchen is open like that too, and I LOVE it! It feels roomier and brighter. Everything looks wonderful, how fun :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Bethany! I LOVE a more open plan too! The 80's architects liked lots of walls. We had lattice everywhere too.
DeleteIt feels like a different house! I'm a lucky gal!
xoxo
Holy BUCKETS what a transformation!!!!!! WOW! I would kill for an island space like that, or space period!! I'm pinning this one to our board! Thanks for sharing on DIY Sunday Showcase.

xoxo
What an amazing transformation! I love your new range!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I appreciate the feature too Rita!

Love the stainless steel details. I'm looking to have a stainless steel counter in our new kitchen. How does one find a good local metal fabricator? What questions should I ask? How should I search? Thanks for this incredible post. Jo @ Let's Face the Music
ReplyDeleteI really love the stainless too! It is very pricey...that is why we choose just to surround the oven with it.
DeleteGoogle local stainless steel counter top manufacturers. Make sure you see a portfolio of their work. I'll ask the hubby what questions to ask.
Thanks for taking a look!
xoxo
This is GORGEOUS!!! I came across your blog because I, too, will be an empty nester soon! So glad to have found you!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you found me Angela. It is a new chapter but if approached in the right way...very enjoyable!
DeleteLove connecting with other "empty nesters"
Thanks for visiting! Hope to see you back again soon!

Beautiful! You have one seriously talented hubby...wish I had "met" you before I (and my hubby) leave Jax next week for other parts of Florida.
ReplyDeleteThank you...I do think he is a "keeper! :)
DeleteI wish that I could have met you too...where in Florida are you headed?
Happy Holidays!
xoxo
What a gorgeous kitchen! Love the openness and the large window, all of it. I'm glad I saw this over at Best of the Weekend link party, my son just left for college too and we're empty nesting it over here on the west coast so I'm going to have to stay a little bit and explore. :) Sharon
ReplyDeleteThank you Sharon...Welcome! Always glad to meet another empty nester! (and we share the same name!!) New stage of life but now that I have adjusted...I'm having a lot of fun!!
DeleteSo glad you found me! Where is your son attending college?
My girls both graduated from FSU (Go NOLES...sorry thinking about the big championship game on Monday!)
Have a great weekend!
xoxo
Nice job! It's always kind of ironic that by the time you can afford to do these kinds of things, the kids are gone. We're doing a much smaller version of this, but we had already downsized our house too...
ReplyDeleteThat is the TRUTH!! The girls tease us about how much nicer the house has gotten in our "Empty Nest" phase!
DeleteI can't wait to check out your blog!
Thank you for taking the time to comment!
xoxo
That is beautiful! Your hubby sure has some mad skills. My hubs and I were crazy enough to build our own house!
ReplyDeleteHe really does Heidi! I'm a lucky gal! We couldn't afford to do as much if we had to pay someone else to do it!
DeleteWow! I've always wanted to build our house...choosing everything...but that is NOT in the cards for us. I bet it was stressful but amazing when finished!
xoxo
What a gorgeous reno! congrats, this kitchen is to die for! http://www.handmadeintheheartland.com/
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Angela! It really is a dream to cook in!!
DeleteThank you for taking the time to check it out!
xoxo
What an awesome kitchen update Sharon! It's super inviting now! Thanks for sharing at the DIY Sunday Showcase! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThank you Therese! I look forward to linking up to your party and appreciate you hosting!
DeleteI appreciate you taking the time to check it out and letting me know what you thought!
Have a wonderful weekend!

Amazing transformation Sharon! I joined the Link Up at DearCreatives and saw your post link there - so glad I did! You and your husband did a fantastic job on your new space. Your new kitchen and living area are a dream, and no doubt so much more enjoyable now. My husband and I just went through the same thing. We're in our "empty nest" home now, too - a rancher that I really don't like - so my "consolation prize" was creating my "dream" kitchen! The first thing we did was take down several walls and open up the floorplan, just as you did. I must blog about it once I've got those last few projects done. Thanks for sharing this inspiring post!
ReplyDeleteI'd LOVE to see what you guys have done!!
DeleteThe builders of the 80's sure loved their walls...it is amazing how much more inviting an open plan is!
Thank you for leaving me this great feedback that made my day!
xoxo
I can only imagine how delightful it feels to step foot into this space each day! It turned out fantastic, so fresh, open and clean! Oh, and I have no clue how you get any dishes done looking at that pool each day!
ReplyDeletexo!
You've got a very handy husband on your hands. The renovation looks absolutely beautiful. Great job. I'm enjoying your blog. - fellow empty nester, Sarah
