Living in Chaos ~ Kitchen Remodel

We had the vision...

 and what was NOT working...

now it was...

Demo Time!

The ceiling was too low...there would be no saving these cabinets, it truly ALL had to go....
the ripping, tugging....

 Yanking and hammering began....

I actually was enjoying knocking these walls down!

At this point I am squealing with delight! I pulled out the vacuum to try to get things a little tidy...but the hubby was ready to TEAR DOWN MORE!

This humungous wall (with the epic 80's wet bar) was next! I couldn't wait to tear it down!

Most Floridians have the garage open 24/7 (well maybe shut when sleeping) so that is the way people enter your home.  When you entered our home you hit a wall....not exactly the way I wanted to greet visitors! I was overjoyed as this wall tumbled down!

This is also the point where three types of flooring met...
carpet + high gloss tile + ceramic tile = broken up space!

We wanted one type of flooring so the floor would flow from one room into another. With Three Rotties filling our nest our practical choice was 18 inch ceramic tile. (easy clean up)

Wall/wet bar GONE!! This was one of those late into the night tear down sessions.  That is my excuse explanation for the dots all over this picture!

This was when the "Black Tarp" arrived. My youngest daughter has the vision of going through this black hole etched in her mind! (she still talks about it...oh our DIY projects and how they effect our poor children...FUNNY Stuff)

Early the next morn my hubby was contemplating his next move.

 So the tear down continues!

Finally...after many hours of hard labor...the new sheetrock was in place and our new lighting installed.
We decided to order a large custom window so as you entered from the garage you would immediately get a view of the pool.
(sorry another late night work session but I promise... the pool is out there!)

Our new refrigerator stands alone packed with take out food we have eaten over and over and over...never thought I would miss cooking this much!

But we I had tons of fun singing and dancing with the echos...knowing that my new kitchen was actually becoming a reality!!

The Rebuild

One afternoon as I got home from work and opened the door I was greeted with our new cabinets!

    1. It WAS CRAZY Claire. It is funny you said holy cow Sharon...instead of Holy Cow Batman...with all the Bang! Pow! Smash! bubbles I used!

I guess we are pretty tolerant..knowing we are saving tons of $$$ for the inconvenience! We tend to just finish one project and start another. We are in the midst of demolishing the master bath now...finding some interesting stuff I'll be sharing when that project is complete.
Who knows when...because squeezing in time between working is tough!

Stay tuned Same Bat Place...Same Bat Channel!!

  3. This is very exciting (especially when you and DH are doing the work). Love seeing the space open up and the walls going back on. Bigger window will be wonderful too.

I remember doing our kitchen reno in 2007, best thing we could have done, the house is so much more 'user friendly'.

    1. Thanks Joy your comments bring me "Joy" so your name is very fitting!

Seeing the project come together is exciting...especially when the thoughts you had in your head about how it would turn out, become a reality!

The kitchen really is the heart of the home...so the reno is worth every dime!
      Stay tuned...

    1. It was unsettling but you know I'm pretty frugal so doing the work ourselves may take MUCH LONGER but the amount of $$$ we save and the satisfaction that WE DID THIS...well Todd did this and I helped : ) is VERY fulfilling!

We got the fridge at Lowes and they don't seem to carry it on line.
