To Peel or Not To Peel

To Peel or Not to Peel…That is the Question

When building a skin care routine, it’s important to include each necessary step- cleanse, treat, moisturize, and protect. But have you ever thought of including a peel?

“WHAT IS A PEEL?!”

That’s usually the feedback I receive from clients. Most often followed by… “Will it be too intense for my skin? Will it burn the top layer off? What in the world could it do for me?”

Benefits

Peels use AHA (alpha hydroxy acids) and fruit enzymes to exfoliate the skin. While most of us are used to scrubbing beads as our only means of sloughing off dead cells, AHA’s actually dissolve the retired particles, revealing fresh and radiant skin. In addition to the exfoliation benefit, most peels are formulated with salicylic and glycolic acids which act as detoxing agents to decongest those pores and refine the skin to baby smooth texture! Depending on the brand, some even include added benefits like Vitamin C for brightness and hyaluronic acid for supreme hydration and skin elasticity.

What’s Not to Love?!

I am an avid peel user, once a day every morning! Because peels exfoliate and immediately reveal smooth and radiant skin, my make up goes on so much better and my complexion glows! I peel as soon as I’ve finished using my Clarisonic cleansing tool and once completed, I apply my serums and moisturizer on top. Some brands suggest you avoid products with alcohol following these treatments. Look at your ingredient lists before combining!

Now that I’ve enticed you with a peel… Which one should you use? It’s all about what’s best for your skin type and lifestyle.

Here are three of my faves:

Dr. Dennis Gross Daily Peel Pads

source

These miracle workers are what I use! Dr. Gross managed to include 30 ingredients at low grade intensity onto just pad #1! After rubbing across face until dry, you allow the ingredients to go to work for two minutes! Then you follow with pad #2 which neutralizes the active ingredients and repairs skin with calming botanicals. Go big or go home and try the Extra Strength if you have peeled previously and want the most results!

Un-Wrinkle Peel Pads

source

I just got these for my mom so you’ll have to follow up and see how much she loves them! This is also a daily peel in pad form but with this product, you must rinse off! This peel’s added benefit are the PEPTIDES which help to stimulate cell turnover. As we age, the amount of time it takes to create a cell and transport it the surface extends from 30-90 days. The cells lose their elasticity and full, round shape. Peptides act like a jumper cable, turning them over much more quickly and adding density to the cells. Your result- FIRMER, smoother, and brighter skin.

Caudalie Vino perfect Enzymatic Peel Mask

For those of you that prefer the natural brands, this twice-a-week 10 minute peel mask is ideal for ultimate radiance and luminosity! That’s because it includes patented Viniferine, which is extracted from the sap of grape vines and according to Caudalie, is 62 times more effective than vitamin C! This is also a great option for sensitive skin because the product is creamy and gentle.

Interesting products. I might have to try the Un-Wrinkle Peel! I use a peptide already, but getting close to an empty bottle. Might need to switch to see the difference.
    Have a wonderful week,
