Home Sweet Home
When we bought our home, which was built in 1980, we were looking at her bones! Location....Neighborhood...Size...2 fireplaces...screened in pool! My husband kept reminding me..."the rest we can CHANGE!"My Visionary...My Better Half
Todd, my husband, can see the potential in spaces... he is also EXTREMELY "handy"!So.... for the past 10 years we have been kicking the 80's out of our Home!
Hideous Guest Bath
This is what we started with! Notice the Beautiful wallpaper....and the dividing wall with lattice? (That lattice was EVERYWHERE in my house!)
Pretty awful huh?
NONE of this was my creation! We moved in and dealt with it until...we could DEAL with it NO LONGER!
Budget
This was not going to be a total demolition! We wanted to give her a major facelift...
I LOVE the tile, so we decided to keep that.
The toilet and tub were functioning fine so, in order to keep costs low, we decided to keep those as well.
Wallpaper...Wallpaper...Wallpaper
Yes, THREE layers of WALLPAPER! All fashionable in their time and place....but removing that with out destroying the walls took me a WEEK!
Demolition
We removed the "Lattice Wall" and the drop down light fixture from above the vanity.
I'm seeing the potential already....love the openness without the wall!
Mirror and Vanity Removal
New Ceiling and Some Drywall
Some days we worked well into the night.. Luckily Todd installed the new recessed lighting.
The recessed light above the toilet is also the exhaust fan! (It is on a switch all by itself)
What Color????
I LOVE the tile, it's filled with tons of colors! I wanted to pick out a shade that is unnoticeable at first glance.I decided to go with Sherwin-Williams
~ Peacock Feathers ~
(third color down)
Todd finished the ceiling...against the blue I am falling in LOVE....she's GORGEOUS!!
Fresh white paint for the doors and molding!
New Vanity
We bought this vanity at Lowe's. We opted for two sinks instead of only one like before. I love vanitys that look like a piece of furniture! We bought the mirrors in Orlando at the GREATEST Place on Earth... IKEA!!
Our next step is a new window and replace the shower/tub framing.
In the meantime...I'm Happy as a CLAM!
Tons of work...but so worth it when it's DONE...(almost)
Before/After
Let's revisit the transformation!! I'll be honest...it's painful to look at what we were living with BEFORE!!Tell me what you think!! Any window suggestions?

I appreciate your comment Danielle! It makes me smile when I go in there! When I look at the "before" pictures...I cringe! All that hard work paid off!
DeleteThat vanity is stunning! Well done on the DIY work. Found you via A Glimpse Inside. If you haven't already, I'd love if you'd come join my How To Tuesday link party, too.

DeleteLooks great! It's really impressive how updated the tile looks now that you've updated everything else. I love the wall colour too!
ReplyDeleteSteph :)
I know Steph, I loved the tile but really didn't know it would look that updated until we had the vanity in there! I'm super pleased with the results! Thanks for the feedback!
Deletexoxo
Beautiful! And the blue goes 100% with the tiles :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you Linda! To be honest my hubby was very concerned about the "peacock feather" color. It is BOLD! However he agreed with me (after it was painted!) Not having to replace the tile was a BIG money saver too! Plus, I just really LOVE that tile! Thanks for taking a look!
DeleteWhat a great transformation! It looks fantastic! And, I love the blue! Life to the full, Melissa
ReplyDeleteI appreciate the compliments Melissa!
DeleteThis updated bath turned out so beautiful! Love the shade of blue with the dark vanity - so rich and lovely! I would say all your hard work paid off in the end. It turned out amazing. I have started a new party called 'Saturday Sparks' and would love to have you link up if you get a chance.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the inspiration,

Have a wonderful weekend!
I love it when before and afters turn out as spectacular as this. Its amazing how much cleaner it all looks by opting for the crisp colors and the recessed lighting makes such a difference. Absolutely beautiful. Very nice work.
ReplyDeleteSuch a nice comment Beth! Thanks!!
DeleteI love your new bathroom. You did an amazing job. I recently redid my bathroom in a blue and white. I kept the big mirror and framed it with a white wood frame. But I really like what you did with the Ikea mirrors. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThanks for reading and your wonderful comment!
DeleteHello Sharon ... great job ... a total new look and so fresh. Love the colors.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Audrey Z. @ Timeless Treasures
Thanks Audrey! I really love how it turned out! I appreciate the feedback!
DeleteLOVE it! I am so incredibly impressed! XO, Aimee
ReplyDeleteThanks Aimee!
DeleteI love the transformation! And I really love those mirrors, where in the world did you get those? They are so elegant!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the compliment Jenny! I got the mirrors at one of my all time favorite places, IKEA! I actually drive 2 1/2 hours to shop there a few times a year. I have a group of girlfriends that hop in the largest vehicle (so we can fit ALL we buy) and make it a girls day!
DeleteLove the color of the walls with the dark wood.
ReplyDeleteThanks Andrea! I'm in LOVE with the color!
DeleteWhat an amazing transformation! You really kicked that 80's butt. The color is wonderful! It looks soooo much better without that wall and drop down vanity lighting. AND, WOW, three layers of wallpaper? That's ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteThanks Bethany! The wall paper on top of wallpaper in this house has been unbelievable! They had it done professionally too...so now I HATE WALLPAPER! : ) Maybe someday I will like it again...
DeleteThanks for the compliments!!
xoxo
yikes, that was some before! i'm loving the more open and fresh look, and love the idea with the 2 mirrors!
ReplyDeleteI know...almost was too embarrassing to share but I HAD to! I can't wait until the family room/ kitchen is ready to share...We're knocking down walls all over this house!!
DeleteI really like the idea of two mirrors instead of one big one too! Thanks for looking!
xoxo
I really like your new bathrm. Yes the gold shower door has to go! We have only one bathrm in our 50 yr.old home. so 2 yrs. ago we gutted it and remodeled. The contracter took the false ceiling out of the tub area and put in a curved arch going into the bathtub and one can light above the tub. We put in everything new and what a difference our small home looks. Last Dec. 2012 we finished our tiny kitchen. It is a Wow! to our home. We did put in granite counter tops. The granite is a beige with a hint of gold under tone, with lots of sparkles, black, grey, white, it is a small patterned piece. That is what I wanted so it was not so over powering the whole kitchen flow of the eye. I am now going to work on my office and the home is done. With the kitchen remodel we put new vinyle flooring, new carpet through out except the bedrms. They are hardwood and need refinished. Thank you for sharing your bathroom with us.
ReplyDeleteWow! Sounds like you've been busy too! It's so fun when you are done and look back at the progress you made!
DeleteI like the bathrm window without any curtains. I know most homes have bamboo roll downs and They add a hint of wood to flow with your vanity. Valance I feel would date the rm again even a drape like you had dates it. Check blogs and draw ideas from there.
ReplyDeleteWe are replacing the whole window. I'm thinking of one with the blinds built inside the window. I have never owned any of those and wonder how long the inside blinds last.
DeleteI agree, putting a drape or valance would "date" the room. I like it without anything I think....becoming more minimalistic as I age! : )
Thanks for giving me some input!!
xoxo
Great transformation! I really love the vanity also. I am your newest follower from 'The Scoop' blog hop :)

Kicking the 80s out of your home! I love the title of this! My parents have done a ton a remodeling in their home but over a long period of time, so they're trying to kick the 90s out :) You are a far braver soul than I for tackling this project!
ReplyDeleteThis was a baby project...wait till you see the kitchen! We knocked down a few walls! It is overwhelming at times but SO WORTH IT, (when you're done!)
DeleteWe have a few more things to finish up and I will be showcasing that! Hope you'll come back to see!
xoxo
Amazing! WOW! Keep kicking out them 80's!
ReplyDeleteWhat a transformation! I love it. My favorite part: two smaller mirrors rather than one large. What a great look. *pin
ReplyDeleteThanks Sally! Those IKEA mirrors are awesome...and inexpensive!
DeleteThanks for looking!
xoxo
Bath looks great! The 80's must have been extremely profitable for the wallpaper industry, we had it everywhere too. You could try spray painting the gold door trim for a quick and inexpensive update...What do you have to loose? Looking forward to the kitchen reveal.
ReplyDeleteSharon you did such a fabulous job! What a project! The vanity is gorgeous! Would love for you to share at the party! xo Bridgett

Wow, did you kick butt! Our master bath is stuck in the 80's too. Can you give me more info on the vanity? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHi Edie,
DeleteThanks! It is quite an improvement, right!! We purchased the vanity at Lowes - in store. I'm heading there now so I'll look and see if they still carry it!
You can also get some awesome deals at COSTCO and BJs on a vanity, if you are a member and have a club near you.
xoxo
Edie,
DeleteThey don't have our vanity in the store at Lowes anymore. Here is the link to the vanities you can get through COSTCO. Hope this helps!

Haha! Love your title!! You did a great job. I love the color! We kicked the lots of decades out of our house...there are really good old things and really bad old things. We got some of both with our house, but the bathrooms were bad, so I can totally sympathize!
ReplyDeleteThank you for looking Kim! Glad you can sympathize with the before "wonderfulness" The after is always so uplifting!!
Deletexoxo
WOW! What a difference removing that wall (and the lattice!) made. It looks great and the tile looks amazing next to the blue too. Love what you've done! Can you paint the window trim? It looks SO MUCH better already :).
ReplyDeleteThanks Meg...yes that lattice was EVERYWHERE in our house. Such an awkward fad...anyway keep following, I've got tons more 80's to kick out of here!!
Deletexoxo
These pictures don't even look like the same room. What a change. That is how to send the 80's back in time!
