However when I hosted a Valentine's Day Brunch I wanted to change things up a little. You can read about the brunch here. So I created a Valentine's Day version...
For the Love of Chocolate
Ingredients
1 box Duncan Hines Red Velvet Cake mix8 oz Cool Whip
Reeses peanut butter cups - 2- 8 packs
Chocolate instant pudding mix (large)
Valentine M & M s (pink, red, white)
Kahlua
Red Velvet Cake
Prepare Red Velvet cake in a 13 x 9 pan according to box directions
1 1/4 cup water
1/3 cup vegetable oil
3 large eggs
Chocolate Pudding
Prepare pudding according to package directions. Refrigerate to set.
Reeses Cups
Unwrap and freeze in a zip lock bag. After hardened, chop coarsely. I use a tenderizing mallet.
Valentine M & M s
Chop these to use as a colorful topping.
Preparation
After the cake is done I let it rest for 10 minutes. I poke holes in it with the end of a wooden spoon then drizzle Kahlua into the holes. (This step is optional)In the bottom of a truffle dish(I bought mine at Target)
- Crumble about 1/3 of the Red Velvet cake (spread evenly)
- top with 1/2 of the chocolate pudding (spread to the sides of dish with rubber spatula)
- Top with 1/2 Cool Whip (spread evenly)
- Top with chopped Reeses cups
- Crumble 1/3 of the Red Velvet cake
- top with the rest of the chocolate pudding (spread to the sides of dish with rubber spatula)
- Top with 1/2 Cool Whip (spread evenly)
- Top with chopped M & M s
Chill in the refrigerator until serving!
